Current Employment

John Lewis Partnership, Programmer (2004-current)
  • I currently work for Management Services at John Lewis with the job title of Senior Programmer, although do very little programming!
  • I am a member of a team responsible for administering the Partnership's web-serving infrastructure.
  • Day-to-day work primarily involves configuration and maintenance of IBM's Java application server - WebSphere Application Server - and performance tuning of the applications that run on it.
  • I also have experience working with other web servers such as Apache and Microsoft's IIS, and various tools used to monitor the environment, such as Mercury BAC, Introscope and HTTP log analysis tools.
  • I am comfortable working on Unix and Windows platforms, and have some experience of Mainframe z/OS as well.
  • I am also an experienced web designer and PHP programmer, and have recently started working with Java.
Academic Institutions

  • I attended St Edmund Hall, Oxford University, and gained a 1st class degree in Chemistry.
  • I also completed a year-long project researching the identification of oil spills using Artificial Intelligence.
  • While at University I was an IT Officer for my college, responsible for helping out junior (JCR) members of the college with IT difficulties and maintaining (actually creating) the JCR website.
  • I also sat on several committees, including ones for college IT, feedback on the Chemistry course and organisation of the college Ball.
  • Before that I went to Brentwood School, Essex, where I achieved 4 As at A-Level and 7A*'s and 4As at GCSE.

IT & Computing
  • As is probably apparent, I have a keen interest in IT!
  • I am well-versed in core Windows programs such as MS Office, and enjoy repairing computers with both software and hardware issues.
  • I am also proficient and enthusiastic about web design and other forms of programming, and always looking for new areas of IT to explore.

  • I played cricket, squash and badminton at school, and have recently taken up tennis.

  • I've participated in a wide range of bands and orchestras, playing Trombone and Oboe, and am now learning guitar.
